The primary responsibilities of a Homemaker are to maintain household conditions, including providing housekeeping services directly to clients. Some of these housekeeping tasks include cleaning, laundry, dishes, menu planning, and even cooking. Homemaker jobs and may also require individuals to run errands such as grocery shopping or other chores outside the home. As a Homemaker, you may also be entrusted to offer sitting services to clients who may not be capable of taking care of themselves.
A Day in the Life of a Homemaker
Maine Homemaker jobs can cover a wide range of responsibilities that depend on the needs of the individual client. However, in general, there are essential services that you can expect to provide on a daily basis in this position.
- Daily meal planning and preparation of healthy, well-balanced dishes.
- Daily pick-up and cleaning including making the bed, dishes, bathroom services, laundry, and more. Occasional deep cleaning may also be required.
- Shopping assistance and/or transportation to and from appointments.
- Sitting with the patient to offer companionship, a listening ear, and a helping hand.
In some Homemaker jobs, there may be additional expectations that require specific skills. In these cases, a Homemaker will be assessed by MAS Home Care to ensure that the client’s needs can and will be met.
Homemaker Educational Requirements
The educational requirements of being a Homemaker depend on the state where you work and the duties required by the client. Some states require you to be professionally trained—training can be offered by programs, community colleges, or even vocational schools. However, other states just require on-the-job training, which is quick, convenient, and involves instructions on specific care for the client. Some of these instructions may include cooking and nutrition information, directions for cleaning and disinfection, and how to respond to emergency situations.
